our little champion

With only minimal Photoshop enhancement:

[Midnight update: Abby has felt him kicking and rolling for weeks, but just after posting this, as we were watching the “One Shining Moment” video recap of the NCAA tournament, I felt him kick — twice! — for the first time! Sweet!]

  1. I first “met” you through cakewrecks. I met a little boy named James the other day and I got to wondering how you were doing. I am so excited for you about baby #3 ! I will be praying for you as you are on this new adventure. I know it will be scarey b/c of your losses, but I pray that God will fill your hearts with courage and JOY! God is GOOD!

  2. Abby and John — Congratulations! Your family was on my heart so I looked at the Sweet Baby James blog site and the link to this site. We saw Gail the Chaplain at Arnold Palmer last week when Emerson had her heart surgery. Praise God, today is 2 weeks since her heart defects were corrected. She only had to stay 8 days; Lauren said she didn’t want to develop close relationships with the PCICU nurses like she did with the NICU nurses. I pray with joy for you and your new baby boy! 3. I discovered your family via Cake Wrecks (a web site that is always able to make me laugh out loud during a trying day) and I spent much of yesterday reading through ALL of your posts throughout James’s too-brief life. Even though I knew from the start how the story would end, I cried and cried when I read the post about James’s passing and was completely crushed when Dora didn’t make it. Today I came to your new blog and discovered your wonderful new news. Many congratulations from a fellow Tarheel! Your faith in God is truly amazing, and you all will be in my prayers.

  4. Finally! The eight commenter acknowledges that the ultrasound is a TARHEEL…

Susannah, thanks for commenting. A lot of Cake Wrecks readers have told us very similar things, and we thank Jen often for sending you all our direction. As far as our faith in God being amazing, I think it’s more that we try our best to write in a way that makes God seem amazing no matter what circumstance. But the long gaps in between posts are filled with many faith-failures, at least on my part. We generally don’t write about those as much, though! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I skipped over from sweet baby James after my daily dose of Cake Wrecks. Congratulations on baby #3! And, thanks for sharing James. What a beautiful boy. I enjoyed reading about him, and I’m amazed by your faith, too.

  6. That is by far the most awesome ultrasound picture I have ever seen. Well, with the potential exception of a picture I recently saw of a baby with its eyes open in the ultrasound – there is a definite difference in how the pictures look, and you can typically see the cornea, iris, etc. It’s so weird! That is an ADORABLE foot, though. I’m a new reader, here from Cakewrecks, and I’d like to say thank you for sharing your beautiful son’s life.

  7. I found James’ website via Cake Wrecks and read it over the course of the week. After reading about Dora I asked God to bless you with a healthy baby. Then I wandered over here and found that just as He opened Hannah’s womb, He has done it for you!

  8. GO HEELS – all of them, the ones here, the ones some places better and the ones coming soon.

I wish you guys all the blessings in the world.
