pumpkin reserve

A couple weeks ago when the weather was cool, we took Valor to a pumpkin patch. Alas, the only smile we got was the one before we left.

We met up with friends who have a daughter 5 days younger than Valor, and only two ounces lighter at birth. Valor’s subsequent growth spurt has turned him into a two-month-old monster in comparison, at 13 lbs. 6 oz.. He has jumped from the 30th to the 90th percentile for weight. Who would have ever thought we’d have a fat baby? At least dainty MacKenzie is being a good sport about sitting next to Sumo Boy.

Valor was a good sport, too, considering I almost poked his eye out trying to set up a photo. I had him propped up over a pumpkin with a nice pointy stem when he lost head control and dropped his head. Fortunately he just scratched the side of his forehead, but I felt terrible for setting him up like that. No more pointy pumpkins!

Aaaaand after a while it all gets to be too much, no matter how happy your outfit.

Resignation, or maybe smugness?

Stay tuned for more smiles, adidas sambas, and my latest disasters and discoveries on the diaper front!

  1. I actually love the photo of him crying, does that make me a nasty person? He just looks so flippin cute with his face all scrunched up. Love you little man ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Oh that is just WAY too cute. Every one of these is my favorite. Abby must be making some seriously high-test milk, he’s really chunking up nicely! Go team boobs! The babies look so cute together. And I’m another mean person who loves the pouty crying-in-fun-surroundings shot. And awww look at the poor put-upon little man on his mommy’s shoulder. Thank you for sharing your enjoyment of the little guy with his Internet fan club ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I love the crying one too! ๐Ÿ™‚ What a cutie! I have a pic of my son sitting beside a real bunny for Easter. He is also crying his eyes out. He is 7 now and loves that picture of himself. These photos will take one even more meaning as you laugh WITH him over the fun stuff you did one day. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love all of the pics, but the very last one just kills me xD; He looks so worn out! That one will probably be a favourite when he’s older ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Too cute! The expression on Valor’s face in the last photo is the exact same expression my daughter had when we had her picture taken with the giant Easter Bunny at the mall….”I am SO done with this!” Keep posting those pics, we can’t get enough of that chunky stuff!

  6. How cute! I think the pumpkin pictures were adorable, even if Valor did have to sustain a small head scratch for the cause! I didn’t even realize how big he was for his age until you put him next to MacKenzie! That’s okay, though. He’s a healthy boy and that is all that matters! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I love pumpkin patch photos. I don’t have a single one of Evan & Daniel when they were little although we did visit farms several times. Believe it or not, they were fat little babies, too. Valor will end up being tall and thin like you and John are. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I just finished reading through the Sweet Baby James blog in order, and clicked the link in the last entry. Let me say that though, like many others, James inspired me, at the end I was crushed for you guys. I knew James and Dora were happy and whole in Heaven, but my heart ached for the parents they left behind. So when the page loaded and I saw this picture of adorable little Valor (love the name, by the way) my heart skipped. I’m so happy for you guys, and for little Valor who has been blessed with wonderful parents. Valor is just as much of an inspiration that his older brother was.

I can’t wait to get caught up on this blog :).

    Love the hat.

  9. Your family is a blessing. I rejoice over your precious sons. I loved James and now have fallen for Valor, too. Your sharing with all of us is amazing and a blessing unbelievable. Valor is certainly the most beautiful of babies. Praise the Lord! If there is anything I can do for you, I am available. Was laid off at the begining of August. Jim has been without work since last November. Just give me a call and I will be there for you. Love, Jeanie

  10. I am in love with that candy corn hat – too cute! Makes me wish I knew some babies to knit for.

(Also, it doesn’t hurt that Valor is just too cute for words on his own – what is it with you guys and the adorable children?)
