pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name – but what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game

Update #5: A few very insubstantial (i.e. spelling) changes made to the final .pdf. Download a fresh puzzle if you want, or work with what you have. Also, no one but the playtesters have solved it, yet, but others are getting close. I’m feeling generous with quotes, so leave a comment if you’re stuck. I tried to make the end of it more fun than difficult.

Update #4: Okay, I was outgamed. Major correction to formula for S. Download full puzzle also updated.

Update #3: One-word clue correction for variable C. Download full puzzle also updated.

Update #2: Clue correction for variable Z. Download full puzzle also updated.

Update #1: I know that several of you may be seeing this and wondering what is going on? Whether you know us well or know us superficially or don’t know us at all, I encourage you to read the post that Abby wrote a couple days ago. So we’re expecting our fourth child, and I have a tradition of writing a baby name puzzle. The final answer of the puzzle below is the name of our girl expected in August.

All lettered variables are positive integers. Check back to this post if you get stuck, and maybe I’ll have to post errata or hints. But I don’t think so. I tried to make this not quite as hard as Mystery’s (I think I succeeded?) Anyway, I tried to make it at least a little more fun. And thematic. And musical. Turn it up!

Teamwork is encouraged (hashtag #Gjukeboxhero on Twitter), but no spoilers in the comments!

  1. So Happy to embark on yet another Gjertsen brain teaser… especially as we near James’ birthday this is perfect. Love to you all…from your nightshift Winnie Palmer diehard…

  2. I am so happy to see your blog is still alive! I am a long-time fan…all the way back when we were all praying for Sweet Baby James.
I have returned to my own blog in the hopes that some day I will be a published author. I would really appreciate a follow back on either one of my blogs or both, but really I just wanted to say hi and tell you how much I enjoyed reading about your lives all this time.
